Besides MassPort, we should definately talk to the authorities that run Bradley, TF Green and Manchester. As I have said before look no further then Stewart and the steps that are being taken there. Here is a part of the story from the Times Union:
TRENTON, N.J. -- New Jersey moved closer on Thursday to allowing the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to buy Stewart International Airport in Newburgh to help ease congestion in the region's skies and airports. A Senate transportation panel approved changing New Jersey law to let the Port Authority to enter into a $78.5 million, 93-year lease of the airport 60 miles north of New York.
It was the first legislative approval for the plan, which still requires consent from the full Assembly, Senate and Gov. Jon S. Corzine.The Port Authority hopes to take over operations at Stewart by October. About 300,000 passengers used Stewart last year, but transportation officials said it could handle 1.5 million and ease pressure on LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy International and Newark Liberty International airports. Those airports handled more than 100 million passengers last year, a total projected to reach 150 million by 2025.
The legislation would match New Jersey law with New York law to authorize the Port Authority to buy or build two new airports -- one in each state -- outside the agency's district, which extends for a 25-mile radius from the Statue of Liberty. Bill sponsor Sen. Paul Sarlo, D-Bergen, mentioned the Atlantic City International Airport and Trenton Mercer Airport as potential purchases by the Port Authority in New Jersey, but Shawn K. Laurenti, the Port Authority's government and community relations director, said nothing is imminent.
"I don't think there's any interest in pursuing an airport in New Jersey at all," Laurenti said.
Sen. Henry P. McNamara was unconvinced that New Jersey won't need another airport and expressed concern about giving the Port Authority the ability to establish one.
"If New Jersey is going to continue to grow, the need is going to happen here also to where you're going to need something to alleviate Newark," said McNamara, R-Bergen.
Sarlo said he at least hopes using Stewart will ease congestion at Bergen County's Teterboro Airport, which has become one of the nation's busiest small airfields. Teterboro Airport has been a longtime sore spot for neighboring residents, who have complained of aircraft noise, exhaust odors and incidents involving planes running off runways.

We have read how Bradley is losing fliers to Stewart. We have read how the New York Port Authority sees Stewart as a reliever airport for the other New York Airports.
Sure, ORH is not in Mass, Ct or New Hampshire, but in mileage it is only 40-50 miles from any of these airports. Hell, these airports are as close to ORH as Boston is..
Maybe these other authorities would be interested in ORH to 1) prevent leakage to ORH (assuming it gets turn around or 2) as a reliever to their current airport.

Does anyone ever wish OBrien would put as much effort and analysis into ORH as he seems to do into other endeavors? Not that he doesnt have too much to do already. I have to wonder what kind of political pressure is being put on O'B behind the scenes in those cigar filled rooms (per Womag) to just handoff the ball to Massport, razzle dazzle style. The airport seems like a pick ball game in the school yard.
Imagine if the effort that went into City Sq or traffic cameras or Shopping cart ordinances was ever re directed to ORH?
God, more effort goes into the homeless and PIP shelter initiates than into ORH. Shouldnt ORH warrant a task force, too?
Did anyone notice that Mr Moylan is in chargge of the city's capital assets, millions in equipment, millions in buildings, millions in infrastruicture, 100's of acres of parks, and construction projects; yet oddly enough 1000's (?) of ORH acres that are assessed at 25 or 30 Million are in the hands of the airport liason, the airport director, the airport commission, and/or the city manager.

There is not 1000's of acres at the airport-just 1,300 much of which is on a hill,environmentally protected or in Leicester with no good access and no water/sewer lines. It is certainly not as valuable as you stated. I believe the Commission and Liaison have very little say on these issues. Even the director takes orders from somone up higher. Everything is in the hands of the top Massport guy (forget his name-sorry)and the City Manager. Let's be honest about the situation.
Doug, I was not sure of the acreage, that is why I placed a (?) after the 1000's acres. I was not looking at as airport acreage and not at its development potential which obviously would probably require water/sewer/road infrastructue upgrades.
The assessed value is $32.8M. I have no idea how that is calculated, but I assume the assessor has a methodology to arrive at tat figure. If you own a home take a look at your assessed value and if you';re in worc I'll bet it's asseseed at 20% below FMV unless you just recently purchased it. I am not saying saying ORH is necessarily assessed at 20% below FMV, nor am I saying it's worth the $32M assessment either; but shouldnt we at least attempt to find out what the place is worth before we hand it off to Massport which I speculate will be at $.02 on the dollar if we're lucky.

Whether I accidentally type ORH is not Mass or Jahn mistates the numbers of acres is irrelevant. We are both simply trying to say that we should be trying to find the best possible buyer for ORH not limiting ourselves to MassPort.
