Forbes on Allegiant

Full story

"Then there's Allegiant Air, owned by Allegiant Travel (nasdaq: ALGT - news - people ), which sends travelers to leisure destinations like Las Vegas and Florida. It's trimmed some of its flights lately due to fuel costs, but the company's revenues increased by 58%, and its profit margin has jumped by nearly 8% on the year. Apparently, it pays to focus on customers who are ready and willing to spend money."

Have I ever mentioned that we really blew it when we lost Allegiant? Maybe I am in a bad mood today, maybe the information that Avports has requested should be posted on the airport website so anyone interested in ORH can readily access the information?

Master Plan! No lie we must be going on the 5th year working on a 20 Year Master Plan. Why bother with this when the reports that we already have nobody follows anyhow. IMG recommended that if we can not get commercial service, downgrade to General Aviation.

Lets:

  1. Downgrade to a General Aviation Airport yesterday and no longer be Part 139 certified.
  2. Post the information that Avports wants right on the website and utilize some of the DOT and maybe use the $250,000 in savings to market the airport?

Think next Tuesday should be interesting City Council Meeting.
I tuned into the middle of last Tuesday's finance meeting prior to the 7pm actual meeting and there was some motion to make a vote concerning the airport. It sounded like maybe closing the airport. I'm not sure .
Does anyone know? The councilors speaking seemed fed up and disgusted with the whole airport issue.

my two cents (after inflation)

It seems to me that the time to be looking at this was when the budget was submitted.

I don't understand why the 2007 payroll budget with 19 positions was less than the 2009 budget with 10 positions.

It also looks like there are six managers ouf of the ten positions, managing the other four employees.

Seems just a little top-heavy to me, but it must be OK because the City Council voted to approve it.

I believe the vote was to simply not pay our portion of the operating deficit.

The finance committee would be better served to vote to stop keeping ORH Part 139 certified, downgrade to GA and post all the information AvPorts wants on the airport website for all to see.

Who writes the payroll checks? It looks to me like payroll makes up about 1/2 of the expenses.

Will Worcester simply stop paying the employees?

A private mgmt company running this as a GA airport would be able to run this airport with a break-even operating deficit (not the debt service)

If you want to look even deeper.....it's costing us $1.2M to keep 16 city employees on the payroll......this comes to $75,000 per employee for the likes of custodians, clerks, maintenance, & security/crash types. I know a mall cop who will do the job for $9.50 an hour with no bennies and the only BBQ's he frequents at work is the Mall Burger King

We have to get the Herald up there with their cameras see who's barbeque'ing and who's sleeping and who's not.

Imagine 5 security crash crewmen up there doing exactly what? More unfunded fed'l mandates. Where's McGovern/Kennedy/Kerry on this kind of baloney as well on unfunded EPA water mandates?.. ...McGovern is probably in Havana or South America somewhere.

Where the hell does the school dept or the library get off claiming a right the projected $260,000 "savings" at the airport as a result of Massport increasing their funding to us? What about my "rights"

What about my dirt road and the carpet bombed "paved" streets I have to drive over to get home. And when they finally do re-pave the streets there's 50 ft long puddles in front of the catch basins... and the watergates are set 2 inches below the new road surface for a very bumpy ride on a brand new surface. And worse the city inspectors are signing off on this shoddy work.

A city on the move ....to becoming a low income housing paradise in receivership.

I think the airport will need to retain its current status in order to cope with the significant number of passengers who will be flying in from all over to patronise the fancy new ice skating rink that is about to appear on the City's Common. Way to go City of Worcester!! Another two million bucks down the tubes.

.............after which they can walk on over to our new Canal District with its assumedly soon to be re-opened Blackstone Canal........talk about a Money Pit.........w/o considering the fact that the Feds will probably pay for most/all of it........what will it cost the city to maintain it???

Why cant we just have the skating rink on the Canal..........and I almsot forgot.........there's the new Blackstone Valley Visitors center, too..........how's that coming along......have they condemmed & and taken via eminent domain the property that's necessary to access the propsoed land locked site. If we're going to have a Blackstone Canal district.............shouldnt the Blackstone Valley Visitors center be located there? BTW who staffs this proposed visitors center......the Feds or the State or the City?

I can almost envision it now in all its glory......with stoners and hobos hanging out at the Canal all day from April to October. Instead of Waterfire it will be Firewater.......7 nights a week....not just on Saturday night

I see Bill's point about downgrading to General Aviation Airport. You would probably save money on salaried employees. Would not have to pay back any Fed/State monies and just have to pay off debt service.

My question is if a private organization is not forthcoming and Massport decides to walk away would we have enough revenue to cover debt service to break even?

My two cents (after inflation)

Anyone ever hear past rumors about a Super Wally World on Park Ave...............either at Park & Chandler.............or at Diamond Chevrolet (too small??). Must be the weather...huh??

And once again, what's up with Rte 146 new Super Wally World

.......and speaking of charlatans.........I need to know where the decrease in my property is.......that Devolution Patrick promised on the campaigh trail 2 yrs ago?

Also WTH is Paulie.......our Park & Chandler guru ??? He must have OD'ed on a Sano's breakfast or a Suney's F&C's....and is now bedridden with a bloated tummy???

I did see the new facade on Suneys Pub the other day..............looks great.........BUT what about architectural/design consistency with abutting properties?..........kinda stands out like a rose amongst thorns.................not unlike Paulies nicely painted 3 deckaaaah.

Why waste money on one storefront (I am assuming this make over was gubment money mostly??)..........s/b doing at least the entire block...otherwise we just have more of teh patchwork quilt look

OUCHIE! Paulie, it sounds like Jahn's gonna 'COLLYER' ass out, eh?!?!?!?
